DESIGN – the 7 laws of adult learning
Most successfull programs respect the laws of adult learning when they are:
- Experiential: build on participants knowledge and lead to real life application
- Relevant and meaningful: participants have something at stake and are given clear roadmaps to achieve their goals
- Learner centric: program leads to valuable outcomes at work or at home
- Learner driven: program builds on free choice, engagement and commitment
- Tailored: to meet preferences based on age, background and learning styles
- Safe: take into account apprehension and ambivalence on own abilities
- Shared: a large part of learning derives from peer exchange & relationships
And they obey basic laws of communication and learning
- Appropriate mix of channels and variety of exercises
- Extensive use of playing and story telling
- Include memory enhancing and retention devices
